What We Do - Training

We help people get to grips with information, technology and software by providing face-to-face and online training.

Digital Imaging

ILRT is home to JISC Digital Media. JISC Digital Media runs a successful training programme of hands-on workshops, catering for all levels in a wide range of technical subjects including digital photography, copyright, metadata, audio production and digitising video recordings.

Workshops are run in small groups, giving attendees plenty of opportunity to discuss individual issues with the tutors and other participants. The learning activities are supported by illustrated workbooks, providing each participant with detailed reference materials to take away with them.

“I felt that I had gained a lot of useful knowledge. The handouts are very concise. I was impressed by the wealth of knowledge of the presenters who didn't fail to answer individual enquiries throughout the day.”

Carolyn Boreham, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London

Internet Research Skills

ILRT is also home to the Intute: Virtual Training Suite, which provides free Internet tutorials to help you learn how to get the best from the web for education and research. The tutorials are written and updated by a national team of subject specialists based in universities and colleges across the UK.

Each tutorial covers Internet search and research skills for a different subject - there's one for most of the subjects taught in UK universities and colleges, with a few extras on topics of general interest. The service is aimed at students, lecturers and researchers in UK higher and further education, but is freely available for anyone to use.

ILRT staff also run Intute training events on using the Internet for learning and research, and produce Intute support materials to guide students and staff to the best of the web.

Writing for the Web

Having a website that is attractive and well-structured is only part of the solution to creating a website that people want to use. Making sure that your text is easy to read, appropriate, and high quality is at least as important. We have been teaching web editors and managers how to write for the web since 2002.
